First introduced in 1991, the original Sierra was Tata’s off-road SUV and is still remembered for its glasshouse. The new-generation model carries forward the same design, but transforms into a sleek mid-size SUV format.
The Tata Sierra is just days away from its launch, scheduled for November 25th. Buyers are eagerly awaiting its arrival. Positioned between the Curve and Harrier, this upcoming midsize SUV is set to rival segment leaders like the Hyundai Creta. This time, it boasts a more rugged and premium look. Available information already tells us the SUV’s color options.

Interior: Luxury SUV Feel
As soon as you get inside, you’ll feel like you’re sitting in a 30-35 lakh SUV. Tata has spared no expense this time. A dual-tone beige-black theme, soft-touch materials, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system (with the new iRA connected car tech), a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster below it, a panoramic sunroof, a 360° camera, ventilated front seats, a wireless charger, and a JBL sound system—everything is there.
The rear seats can comfortably accommodate three people. Legroom and headroom are excellent. Boot space is also expected to be around 450-500 liters, which is plenty for a weekend trip. The best part is that the second-row seats fold almost flat in a 60:40 split, creating up to 1,400 liters of space for luggage.
Six colors have been confirmed so far.
Tata showcased six monotone shades for the Sierra at launch. This palette blends bold, retro-inspired colors with conservative tones, especially for buyers who prefer a calmer look.
Confirmed colors include:
Andaman Adventure Bengal Rouge Coorg Clouds Mintal Grey Munnar Mist Pristine White
SUV Teaser
Of these, Andaman Adventure and Bengal Rouge are the most striking and have already been seen in teasers of the SUV. Munnar Mist also stands out with a finish that shifts between green and brown depending on the lighting. For a more traditional look, lesser options like Coorg Clouds (a silver/light brown shade), Mintal Grey (dark brown), and Pristine White are available.
Will there be a black shade?
However, the black shade hasn’t been revealed yet, and Tata hasn’t confirmed this option. A Dark Edition or stealth-style variant could also be revealed at launch or shortly thereafter. This is in line with Tata’s strategy, which we’ve seen with models like the Harrier, Safari, Curve, and Nexon.

A Nameplate with History
First introduced in 1991, the original Sierra was Tata’s off-road SUV and is still remembered for its glasshouse. The new-generation model carries forward the same design, but transforms into a sleek mid-size SUV format. This will begin with the engine and later expand to electric variants.
Petrol and Diesel Powertrain
The Sierra is expected to be launched with two engine options:
1.5-liter TGDi turbo-petrol. Publicly unveiled at the Auto Expo 2023. Set to join the Harrier and Safari range in December. Output: 168-170 bhp at approximately 5,500 rpm and approximately 280 Nm of torque between 2,000 and 3,000 rpm. 2.0-liter Kryotec diesel. Expected output: 168 bhp and 350 Nm of torque.
Another turbo-petrol option is also expected, although this has not yet been confirmed. Both petrol and diesel engines are expected to come with 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions. With its familiar design, new technology, and now a clearer color palette, the Sierra is poised to once again attract significant attention in this segment. More details will begin to emerge from Tata as the launch nears next week.
Safety: Tata’s long-standing trust
The very mention of Tata automatically evokes the promise of safety. The Sierra will feature six airbags as standard, Level-2 ADAS (adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and auto emergency braking), electronic stability control, hill hold, and hill descent control—everything. Since it’s built on the new Sigma platform, a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating is guaranteed.
One last thing
The Tata Sierra isn’t just a car – it’s an emotion. It’s a throwback to the days when people would exclaim, “Man, this is a Sierra!” Now, that nostalgia is returning with new technology, zero emissions, and luxury. If you’re a ’90s kid or simply want an electric SUV that’s distinctive, comfortable, and built for Indian roads – there’s no better choice than the Tata Sierra 2025.
